The 1934 Chevrolet lineup offered two distinct series, the Master and the Standard, each built on a different wheelbase. The Master rode on a 112-inch wheelbase, two inches longer than the 1933 model, while the Standard held steady at 107 inches. Both series kept their six-cylinder power, but the Master's 206-cubic-inch engine received modifications that boosted output from 65 to 80 horsepower. The Standard carried over its 181-cubic-inch engine producing 60 horsepower.
Chevrolet's biggest news for 1934 was the adoption of "Knee-Action," a sealed Dubonnet-type independent front suspension. Standard equipment on the Master series, it would not be offered on Standard models for several more years. Master models retained the previous year's styling theme but came in noticeably heavier, gaining roughly 225 pounds over their 1933 counterparts. About 60 pounds of that weight came from the new Dubonnet suspension components.
Styling updates included three horizontal hood louvers replacing the doors used in 1932 and 1933, along with a reduction in wheel size to 17 inches. Free Wheeling remained optional on Master models only. The Standard line expanded to five body styles for the year. Prices climbed by $40 on Standard models and by as much as $100 on the Master series. Despite the price increases, production surged by 29 percent, with the Standard coach posting the biggest gain in the lineup.
